On the occasion of the "Paper and Cardboard Recycling Month", Lucart opened the doors of its Diecimo plant to visitors wanting to learn more about the recycling of paper and beverage cartons.

On Friday, March 29th, the Lucart Eco-guides accompanied visitors to the discovery of the large systems that every day transform the paper to be recycled into new hygiene articles, such as toilet paper, napkins, handtowels, kitchen towels and handkerchiefs.

As part of the "Open Recycling" initiative promoted by Comieco, the consortium for the recovery of paper and cardboard, visitors to the Diecimo plant saw the paper machine and also discovered how the energy and steam that power it are produced, learnt about the raw materials that are used, observed how water is purified to ensure safety and protect the environment and saw what happens to production waste. It was a unique opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge of one of the best examples of circular economy implemented at an industrial level that every year saves hundreds of thousands of trees and reduces CO2 emissions.

The Diecimo Plant is one of the largest integrated plants for the production and processing of paper for hygienic purposes in Europe. Every year, the plant produces and converts more than 100,000 tons of regenerated paper and certified pure cellulose into toilet paper, kitchen towels, napkins, handkerchiefs and handtowels. It is one of the very few plants in the world able to recycle Tetra Pak
® type beverage cartons recovering all the components, namely cellulose fibres, polyethylene and aluminium, which are transformed into two new raw materials called Fiberpack® and Al.Pe.®

The plant has many certifications that guarantee the correct application of Quality, Safety and Environment, Energy and Raw Materials management systems. Certifications include EU Ecolabel, PEFC, FSC, UNI EN ISO 9001, UNI EN ISO 14001, UNI EN ISO 50001, EMAS, BS OHSAS 18001, Der Blaue Engel, IFS HPC.
